Max & Mallory · Octant Douro
Max and Mallory's wedding at Octant Douro was spread across two days in the Douro Valley, Portugal's wine country, where the terraced vineyards descend to the river in a landscape shaped by centuries of cultivation.
Octant Douro is a contemporary hotel built into the hillside above the river, with architecture that frames the valley rather than competing with it. The rehearsal dinner on the first evening was set against the last light of the day, with a live string trio and a table disposition that made every guest feel like they were at the centre of it. The wedding day itself moved from ceremony to reception as the light changed over the water.
The florals were designed by Andreia Ferras Studio, whose work brought a considered wildness to the tables and ceremony space. Planning and full creative direction was led by Sofia Gama Events. Maxwell wore an heirloom Rolex, one of those details that photography on film renders with particular care.
If you are planning a destination wedding in the Douro Valley and are looking for photographers who understand how to work in the valley's distinctive and challenging light, we would love to speak with you.

Planning a Wedding at Octant Douro? Questions We're Often Asked
-
ctant Douro does not publish a fixed wedding package price, since costs are built around guest count, room blocks, and whether the hotel is reserved for exclusive use. As a general benchmark, luxury Douro Valley weddings during peak season (April to October) tend to start from around €20,000 for the wedding day itself, before accommodation.
-
Yes. The hotel hosts ceremonies and receptions on its riverfront terraces, with the Douro Valley as a natural backdrop for both intimate and larger destination weddings.
-
Octant Douro's two indoor event spaces, the Douro Room and the Library, hold between 20 and 160 guests depending on layout. Most weddings at the hotel take place on the outdoor terraces and around the pool, for which the venue does not publish a fixed capacity since it depends on furniture and time of day. With 55 rooms and 6 suites, the property comfortably accommodates wedding parties who book it for exclusive use.
-
Late spring through early autumn brings the warmest light and the most dramatic views of the terraced vineyards, though the valley's character shifts beautifully with each season.
-
Late afternoon into golden hour, when the light moves across the river and the hillside terraces catch warm side light. We planned Max and Mallory's portraits around this window.
