Giorgia & James · Estufa Fria
Giorgia and James were married at Estufa Fria, the historic glasshouse garden tucked into Parque Eduardo VII in the heart of Lisbon. Built into the hillside in the 1950s, the greenhouse is unlike any other venue we have photographed in Portugal: ten concrete vaults wrapped in tropical planting, with lakes and a glass roof that turns daylight soft and green long before it reaches the ground.
It is also one of the few weddings in our archive captured entirely on film. No digital backup, no second format, just the grain and warmth that come from shooting a full wedding day on analogue stock. Giorgia wore Riki Dalal, James wore Canali, and six bridesmaids in mismatched terracotta and orange carried white parasols through the garden paths between the ceremony and the candlelit dinner that followed.
We photograph a maximum of ten weddings each year, and an all-film wedding day like this one is exactly the kind of project we hope more couples will ask for.
The Super 8 Film — Estufa Fria, Lisbon
At Estufa Fria, Super 8 felt like the natural extension of a wedding day already shot entirely on film. The greenhouse's filtered light, the dahlia arch, the swing band winding through the reception: all of it carried the same warmth and grain as the stills, so the film moves the way the day actually felt rather than the way a camera usually records it.

Planning a Wedding at Estufa Fria? Questions We're Often Asked
-
Yes. The greenhouse is exclusively managed by Casa do Marquês for events, and can hold ceremonies and receptions for up to 600 seated guests inside the glass-roofed hall, with the surrounding gardens available for the ceremony itself. Most international couples coordinate the booking directly through Casa do Marquês or a local planner.
-
Venue hire is bundled with catering through Casa do Marquês, with dinner menus listed from around €88 per guest before drinks, decor, and production. The total varies significantly with guest count and season.
-
It is a working botanical greenhouse rather than a palace or quinta, built into the hillside of Parque Eduardo VII in the 1950s, with lakes, waterfalls, and tropical species under a vaulted glass roof. It is one of the few genuinely unconventional, city-centre venues in Lisbon.
-
Yes. The dappled light through the glass roof and the density of the planting give film a real advantage over digital, softening the greenhouse's mix of natural and artificial light. The Lopes Photography shot Giorgia and James's full wedding day at Estufa Fria entirely on film.
