The eastern coast (Tavira, Faro, Olhão, Vila Real) is quieter, more intimate, and more specifically Portuguese in character. How accessible is the Algarve for international guests?
Faro Airport is the regional hub and receives direct flights from London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and multiple North American gateways, particularly from spring through fall. Most Western Algarve venues are sixty to ninety minutes from Faro by road. Tavira and Vila Real, in the east, are thirty to forty-five minutes from the airport. Transfers by car are straightforward, and the better venues have established relationships with local transport companies for group logistics. There is no practical need for guests to rent cars if they are staying at or close to the venue, though having a car helps for exploring the region around the wedding weekend.
Do we need a wedding planner for a destination wedding in the Algarve?
For an international couple planning from abroad, a local planner is worth the investment rather than optional. The Algarve's best vendors book out often twelve to eighteen months in advance for peak months, and navigating Portuguese supplier relationships from a different time zone is significantly harder without local representation.
